Is water filtration necessary for your RV?

Do you need an RV water filtration system? While most RV resorts across Canada provide safe drinking water, you may only sometimes be parked where that is a guarantee. A water filter that travels with you may be the best addition to your Class A or travel trailer.

What does water filtration do for your RV?

Good RV water filtration protects your family's health against unknown water quality problems while you are on the road. Not every campground will have a municipal water supply. Untreated wells can be subject to bacteria growth, high mineral content, and other hidden problems.

The water at the RV resort may be tested and safe to drink, but it might have an unpleasant odour or taste. A filter can reduce or eliminate the unwanted taste and smell.

Finally, water with a high mineral content can cause havoc on your plumbing and appliances. Crusty buildup in the water lines can lead to water heater failure and clogged faucets, and it can even prevent your washing machine from getting the clothes clean.

All these issues can be avoided with a sound water filtration system.

Affordable options for clean water for your RV

Access to clean water while on the road does not have to be complicated or expensive.

Inline water filter

The easiest and least expensive option is to install a sediment inline water filter to your supply hose at the RV park. It simply screws onto the spigot in your space and then connects to your white-water hose. They cost around $10 to $20, and one will last all summer. Best of all, you can always grab whatever is in stock at the RV centre.

These filters reduce smells, bad taste, and some minerals from entering your RV water supply.

Under the sink water filter

A dual filter system works much like your whole home system. It’s bulkier, will be installed in the basement of your RV, and treats all water entering your camper. Prices run from $100 to $300, and they need to be plumbed into your unit.

The additional filters eliminate even more sediment and minerals. A third filter can be added to treat bacteria like salmonella. Some ceramic filters can be washed and reused. In the future, you must buy filters that fit your specific system.
