App suggestions for your RV trips

If you own a recreational vehicle and have reliable internet access through a provider like Starlink, for example, certain apps will quickly become indispensable for your travels.

Google Maps and Waze
With paper road maps now a thing of the past, these two navigation apps are among the most popular options available.

The main difference between them lies in how maps are displayed. Google Maps offers a satellite mode that helps with orientation using buildings and other visual elements (fields, open spaces, etc.). However, some users find this display too cluttered.

Waze, on the other hand, stands out for its community-driven approach: Users can report real-time road events, such as obstacles, animals, stopped vehicles, traffic jams, accidents, or speed cameras.

Thanks to its high responsiveness, Waze provides more precise and frequent traffic updates.

In summary, Google Maps is valued for its rich display options, while Waze excels at real-time alerts. Your choice will depend on your needs, but chances are you'll switch between both.

GasBuddy
As its name suggests, GasBuddy helps you locate gas stations and compare fuel prices across Canada and the United States. The only downside is that the app and website are available only in English. However, it remains easy to navigate.

Surfshark VPN
A VPN (virtual private network) ensures a secure and encrypted connection between your device and the internet, making it particularly useful for protecting your data while traveling.

iOverlander
Wherever you are in Canada or the U.S., iOverlander helps you find both paid and free campgrounds through an interactive map. A must-have for RV camping enthusiasts!

ChatGPT
ChatGPT can be a valuable assistant in planning your trips. It helps you explore potential destinations, create itineraries, pack lists, discover local specialties, and even simulate conversations with locals to better prepare for your journey.

Google Lens
Powered by artificial intelligence, Google Lens allows you to identify objects, text, or landmarks using your smartphone camera. It's a great tool for learning more about the places you visit.

Tripadvisor
Tripadvisor offers reviews and travel advice on hotels, restaurants, attractions, and cities worldwide. With millions of recommendations, it's an essential resource for planning your trip.
